Participating bars will offer special cocktails all month that showcase the best of Oakland’s cocktail culture.  Each time a guest buys one of these cocktails, $1 is donated to Community Kitchens’ free community meal program.  Throughout the month, these same bars will be offering other special events like whiskey tastings, mixology contests, bar crawls and good old-fashioned parties.

The month-long party can be navigated using Community Kitchens’ new Dining for Justice app, a phone app that helps users find participating bars, events, and specials.  Revelers can use the app to find a libation destination and when they check-in at each bar and restaurant, they will get the opportunity to win prizes at the close of the event.  Our community meal sponsor, Block, will donate a community meal for the first 2000 check-ins!

Throughout the month our brand sponsors will be partnering will be adding their own events to the mix.  One very special sponsor event, hosted by St. George Spirits, will be a people’s choice cocktail contest with six local bars offering competing St. George-based cocktails throughout the month with patrons using in-app voting to choose a winner.  Other events will be announced throughout the month with partners like Tito’s vodka, Maestro Doble tequila, 400 Conejos mescal, Evan William’s bourbon, and more.  Inspired by the late Oakland Cocktail Week, Oakland Restaurant Week, and our own Dining for Justice program, Cocktails for a Cause aims to become a fixture in Oakland’s summertime social calendar.
